How to use expanding foam tape?

The polyurethane foam expands evenly to provide a high performance all-weather seal and is treated on one side with a pressure sensitive adhesive to secure it to one side of the joint. It is specially designed to seal gaps around doors and windows, expansion joints in concrete, joints between precast concrete panels and profiled panels.

The EXPAND  self-expanding tape provides permanent elastic expansion, ensuring protection against water, dust and wind. The EVO version, without a separation layer, has a special film that allows it to maintain its shape as long as it is rolled up.

Step 1: Prepare the Tape

  • Remove the adhesive backing paper from the beginning of the tape roll to create a clean, square edge.

  • Discard the initial piece of tape with the deformed edge.

Step 2: Apply the Tape

  • Peel back approximately 15cm of the release paper to expose the adhesive side.

  • Apply the tape to the smoother surface (e.g., window frame) using a flat tool like a putty knife or trowel.

  • Important: Avoid stretching the tape during application.

  • Continue unwinding the roll, peeling back the release paper as you go, until the entire joint is filled.

Step 3: Oversize for Expansion

  • To account for expansion, ensure the tape extends beyond the joint by 1cm per meter.

  • Tuck the visible edge of the tape into the joint by 1-2mm to ensure a clean finish.

Step 4: Allow for Expansion

  • The expanding foam tape will begin to expand and fill the joint.

  • The expansion rate may vary depending on temperature.

  • The self-expanding nature of the foam will accommodate any unevenness in the joint.

This revised version provides a more concise and easier-to-understand description of the installation process.
